The 30th Year Anniversary of National Institute of Animal Health : The 5th Thailand-Japan Joint Conference on Animal Health

On the 6th of June 2017 09:00 AM, Dr. Phairoj Hengsangchai, Deputy General Director of the Department of Livestock Development (DLD), Thailand and Dr. Kenichi Sakamoto, Director General of the Japan - National Institute of Animal Health (J-NIAH) co-chaired the opening ceremony of the 30th Year Anniversary of National Institute of Animal Health (T-NIAH) : The 5th Thailand-Japan Joint Conference (TJJC) on Animal Health and Dr. Preecha Wongwicharn, Director of T-NIAH as TJJC2017 chairman welcomed remarks which this event held on the 6th to 8th of June 2017.

After that, there were the signing Ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between J-NIAH and DLD, Short speech from Dr. Tsukasa Nagamine, Vice President, The National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), Short speech from Dr. Tomoko Taira, Director, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), T-NIAH Video Presentation, Special Lecture on the Move Forward in Thailand – Japan Research and Innovation by Dr. Kenichi Sakamoto, Director General of J-NIAH, Special Lecture on the NIAH: Built by Friendship, Strengthened by Dedication Dr. Vimol Jirathanawat, former director of T-NIAH, Group Discussion on the Challenges and Opportunities in the 4th decade of NIAH by Dr. Masumi Sato, J-NIAH, Dr. John Allen, Australian Animal Health Laboratory, Dr. Wantanee Kalpravidh, FAO-Thailand and Dr. Monaya Ekgatat, General Director of DLD's consultant on Brucellosis and Dr. Thanawat Tiensin, DLD's International livestock expert, as the moderator. And the special lecture on Emerging Infectious disease as a public health issue by Professor Dr.Thiravat Hemachudha, MD FACP, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

This Joint Conference has been organized annually under the MoU signed in May 2012 between DLD and J-NIAH- NARO which the 1st TJJC 2012 held in Bangkok and the 2nd TJJC 2013 held in Tsukuba, were successful in achieving their objectives. Our young generation researchers had an opportunity to present their researches, exchange ideas and make new contacts. Moreover, a collaborative project has been discussed and initiated. The theme of the conference will be "Get Together for Animal Health". The theme for this year’s conference was chosen as a means of bringing together the researchers, scientists and veterinarians from T-NIAH and J-NIAH to share knowledge, experiences, and technology advances in term of animal disease research and diagnosis, to strengthen relationship and academic collaboration between the two institutions. The aim of the conference is to gather scientists in the area of animal health and public health to exchange new idea and better understand the challenges and opportunities that each group faces and to develop solutions for future research, and network that fulfill the needs of both people and animal science. We submitted of 49 papers (33 Thai papers and 16 Japanese papers).
